When you are watching a movie and the sound cuts out and you get the Cinavia warning, simply pause the movie (X) and back out to the main menu (O) and then slide over to settings > date and time and advance the year by one. Then go back to movies > media server > movie folder and play your movie. It will start back off where you paused it and the sound will be re-enabled until the next watermark. Do bear in mind this is only temporary and you will have to do this every time the Ps3 hits a Cinavia watermark, which seems to be about 4 or 5 times per movie. It’s annoying, but hey at least you can finish your movie!

There are ways you can rip with your store bought copy which will transfer the "rights" assignment so it won't trigger Cinavia. (NO you can't do it w/ a downloaded video. Sorry. Go buy it.) Doom9.net is a great source for all things video and copying etc.

Okay so here is how it works. It's almost identical to Shazam with music. You know how Shazam "listens" to what you are hearing on the radio (or any other source) and it hits the internet, goes to the Shazam server with it's sample and the server cross references that waveform to a huge database of song ID waveforms and shoots back the txt info about what the song is....

Cinavia does the exact same thing. It uses it's own servers (Cinavia servers) to cross reference the AUDIO of the movie you are watching. That is why when the error kicks off, it can only disable the audio. It can't do anything else. It is using the sound output to accomplish this.

To fix all you have to do is go to your router and modify "ACCESS RESTRICTIONS" or whatever similar page you have and DENY the PS3's IP address access to the internet.

Since the PS3 cannot "phone home" it can't look up the sound sample on their servers (it can't reach them) and therefore it won't shut off the movie.

Eventually they will catch on to this and it will start locally caching the info. You can simply clear it out and block internet access. This is why Sony has the OS and Firmware update schedules... to combat people like me.

Good luck sony... you're always two steps behind.....

You HAVE to let us watch the movie if it is legitimate or at least at some point in time the media player on the PS3 has to be allowed to play some media... because of this you will never fully lock it down....
