If your talking about a PC,
it means hardware issues such as a driver being installed incorrectly;

Code:

So I just uninstall & re-install it?

in most cases that might work, depends on what ya installed also.

I uninstalled it & restarted the laptop & checked device management & I didn't see it re-installed.
NetGroup Packet Filter Driver, I gotta find what does it do & how important is it & how do I find it to re-install it again.
Grrrr.

Yea I run across something online saying that too.
I've uninstalled it & ran scans with no issues of viruses or malware popping up, I don't know what files would be effected or related to it though so I can't say there's been anything lose cause I haven't noticed anything missing yet.

I did a restore & the NetGroup Packet Filter has been there awhile since Jan 4th, that's the restore point I went back to.
I ran scans from essentials, system care, AVG, & still had no issues show up.
It was Driver Booster 9 how I saw the error, & yesterday before I uninstalled it after running the system clearer, etc, & after I unstalled it, even today I don't see the error anymore.

Hmmm, what the smurf.
So ya think the NetGroup Packet Filter Driver was some BS thing that hitch hiked on some random Malware that just didn't make it but that did maybe?

No, it's a part of microsofts network protocols,
But win 7 can be finicky with apps, and replaces the dlls with their own version.
Which is why I stray away from untrusted apps.

Ah okay, but now how do I re-install it, where do I find it to do so?

Let me rephrase that, altho it's part of Microsoft network protocols it's not needed to run anything important, it was probably installed from a driver library,
Don't quote me on this...

Code:

Before anything, thank you for your help on this Smile
It's really appreciated & more than welcomed.

1. Okay now to the nitty gritty.
When you say Network Protocols you mean like internet connection right?

2. Let me tell ya something odd.
I could not open the AVG browser at all yesterday. I mean I clicked & clicked & clicked it to no avail.
So I freaked having in mind that NetGroup & this was somehow related, so I used a restore point again this time the oldest -re-point I had. 12/31/21

I went into device management looked through the hidden folders again & it still had the exclamation point on it.
So its been that way since then, or who knows how long.
I guess I have to leave it alone till I find something that says exactly what it does & how important it is cause I can't restart it or re-install it when I unistall it.

This is just weird.

Well it is a valid program that is required to run at startup.
but the file can be installed by malware, but is not considered harmful to your computer.

with that being said...

Read this
Code:
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-7-error-netgroup-packet-filter-driver/20e8bb75-8974-46f9-b99d-1e78914ba07a

Get This..then run it...
Code:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/intelligence/safety-scanner-download

And in conclusion...
if the npf driver is not visible in your regular "Computer Management" WMI-interface. The npf status is best checked with the command line.
Run a cmd.exe as administrator and run the command sc qc npf.
You should get some output like this:

C:\Windows\system32>sc qc npf
[SC] QueryServiceConfig SUCCESS
SERVICE_NAME: npf
TYPE : 1 KERNEL_DRIVER
START_TYPE : 2 AUTO_START
ERROR_CONTROL : 1 NORMAL
BINARY_PATH_NAME : system32\drivers\npf.sys
LOAD_ORDER_GROUP :
TAG : 0
DISPLAY_NAME : NetGroup Packet Filter Driver
DEPENDENCIES :
SERVICE_START_NAME :

If your driver is not properly started, activate it with the command sc start npf
Finally, to start the service automatically, use the command sc config npf start=auto

Remember to run your cmd.exe as administrator when issuing these commands.

I ran the scan twice & at first it said 4 out of 28+ thousand were infected, then it finished & said no viruses etc were found.

No it's correct, it means the drivers not present, which is why it is not findable in the index,
And four out of twenty-eight thousand plus files ain't bad, not good but not bad.
If you can install the file now you should be golden.

lol Yea I read that when the Safety Scanner finds infected Files & says there's nothing then that's just like fragments & it's nothing to worry about.
2. What file ?
I can't re-install the NetGroup packet filter driver if I uninstall the NetGroup packet filter driver.

Is this what I have to download & install?
