Heavy Metal 295, the Music Special: 17-Page, 6-Cover Preview

Heads up, Metal heads — Heavy Metal issue 295, the Music Special, is on its way. In fact, the New York Comic Con variant (above) will be at our booth this week, come see us — and our guests and exclusives — at Booth #341!

This isn’t our first Music Special, but — by the hoary hosts of ho99o9! — it’s undoubtedly our best. This time around we’ve got more writers, artists (pencilers/painters/inkers/colorists) and artists (musicians and bands) on board than ever before. Let’s talk big names — like, big, legendary, writ-in-stone atop the ziggurat of metaldom names: Judas Priest, Joe Satriani, Def Leppard, Megadeth, and Iron Maiden. These sonic gods have been kicking ass on stage, on wax, on disc, and on video for decades and now their works take yet another form in paper and ink.

If you prefer metal that crawled out of the ’90s, we’ve got adaptations of modern classics by Slipknot, Mastodon, High on Fire, and Amon Amarth. And what of the current era? How about Code Orange, Rob Sonic, and Ho99o9. Ho99o9, in fact, took the story we made out of their song and turned it into the song’s video — truly a collaboration that keeps on giving. See what we mean here: Ho99o9’s “Master of Pain” video.

And we are especially pleased to have harnessed the jokers in the hard-rock pack — Tenacious D. Our storification of “The Metal” is so metal it will eat your soul.

One cover wouldn’t do for this monster of a Music Special — no, we’ve got six covers this time around. You will see them below — here are the links in the store to each of them:
• Heavy Metal 295 Cover A by Kilian Eng
• Heavy Metal 295 Cover B by Dave Correia
• Heavy Metal 295 Cover C by Ian Bederman
• Heavy Metal 295 Cover D by Victor Mosquera
• Heavy Metal 295 Cover E by Nick Pyle
• Heavy Metal 295 Cover F by NC Winters (NYCC/HeavyMetal.com exclusive)
