That there is called the "Guilt Trip", a tool used by scammers to oblige you to feel guilty for their situations and not helping them thru it,
Best thing to do is just say what ya did, "Nahh, im good" is the best response i ever heard,
and a heck of a lot nicer than what I would use...

And believe me, if It was you, this youngster wouldn't even stop and ask you..
