PS3 Update 4.89

PS3 System Firmware Update 4.89 Patch Details Today (May 10)

In a surprise turn of events, Sony has quietly deployed a brand new System Firmware Update for PS3 consoles around the world. The May 10 update now brings the console to version 4.89, with some questionable changes.

Although the console is now 16 years old, it’s still an incredible piece of hardware that many gamers still use to this day. With classic titles such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Skate 3, classic Call of Duty titles, and more all available on the PS3, it’s no wonder fans are still in love with the console.

But it wasn’t just the PS3 that received a surprise update, if you’re one of the handful of gamers that still use and love the PSVita, a new system firmware update is also available. For Vita users, today’s update brings the handheld device to version 3.74 and includes the same changes as the PS3 update.

If you’re eager to find out more, here’s everything we know so far about the new system firmware update for the PS3 and PSVita on May 10.

PS3 System Firmware Update 4.89 Details (May 10)
Sony is yet to acknowledge the release of the latest PS3 and PSVita update on any of their social media, but there are some details taken directly from the console. As noted by a user on the PSNProfiles Forum Forum, today’s update reportedly includes the following changes to both consoles:

“Signing in to PlayStation Network now requires a device password for enhanced account protection. Account creation for PlayStation Network and some account management features are no longer available on the console. Use your PC or mobile browser to use account management features with improved performance, speed, and safety“.

Many users have not taken the update too well, with gamers frustrated at the change. Essentially, following the release of PS3 update 4.89 and Vita update 3.74, players can now no longer create a new account directly from the PS3 or PSVita.

Here's How To Sign In For The 4.89 UpDate.

https://www.playstation.com/acct/device-password

[Image: bJp7Pj1.gif] Also Note IF you are playing your PS3 through a AV Cable & not HDMI, you must switch your PS3 display settings from 16:9 to 4:3 480i
Otherwise you will not see the virtual keyboard & functions that need to be typed in will not work.
AND Certain options like trying to change password etc will lock up the PS3 & you'll have to turn off the PS3 & turn it back on again.

I think it's ever since whomever took over as CEO
The new sign in you have to do this for each Profile you have on the PS3/Vita too.
Each of those stupid crummy passwords Sony generates you gotta use.

Was looking around the Vita hacks Reddit for more info and it’s actually sort of a good thing. The PS3&Vita are massive security risks to user accounts. You could bruteforce accounts using the PS3 and PS Vita requests to bypass all captcha, and all rate limits, etc.

So by forcing everyone to use device passwords they can effectively break this method right here as even the correct password will not be accepted.

Now the only way is to abuse the password reset function to determine the Date of Birth of any PSN account.Which is a security question required to initate a Password Reset.

The create account were also used by spam botters, to bypass captcha in creating an account that would then message you porn and other shit.

I actually had to activate 2 factor authentication on my main and alt PSN and use a device setup password on my PS3 and Vita around mid last year.My alt accounts password kept getting changed and every time I reset it the password would be changed again a few days later.

VSW Here’s how to sign in to PSN on PS3:

How to generate a Device Setup Password

To sign in to PlayStation Network on PS3™ consoles or PS Vita systems, you need a Device Setup Password.
  • Sign in to Account Management. Select Generate New Password. Write down, screenshot, or print out your Device Setup Password and save it somewhere safe. You can now use your Device Setup Password to sign inon PS3 consoles or PS Vita systems.
Please note, account creation and some account management features are now only available from a PC or mobile browser. This is to improve overall system performance.

How to sign in to PlayStation Network on a PS3 console or PS Vita system

To sign in to PlayStation Network, use your Device Setup Password instead of your account password.
  • On your PS3 console or PS Vita system, enter your sign-in ID (email address) and your Device Setup Password when you need to sign in to PlayStation Network.
  • This will authorize the device. Tick the box to enable auto sign-in. If you choose not to enable auto sign-in, you will need to enter your Device Setup Password each time you sign in.*

Sony definitely needs to start handling these things better and taking a closer look a player feedback before doing anything like this.

Yea thanks I was able to do it on 3 of my Profiles ya just gotta get the generated password.
The thing is You have to use your password to sign into your PSN account on a PC/Laptop & generated password they give is used on your PS3 or Vita.

My other issue was I had/have to change old obsolete E-Mail addresses on my accounts as Lus.com email service just poof up & gone, & my other emails by a different service just were so old I couldn't get in. Thank goodness for Proton.
And secondly as I mentioned this update may screw with the display settings.
If your display setting on your PS3 16:9 & for whatever reason you're using an AV cable, you'll have to switch to 4:3 480i because the VR keyboard cannot be seen. No text imputs can be made.
Switch to 4:3 & the keyboard & inputs will work.

I still enjoy using my vita, and this had become a shock to me at first.
Let's remember the other functions that were put on a closure.
Can't use Messenge service on vita/PS3.
Can't use debit/credit cards as payment for digital contents.
Now this....
And there's more, can't create new account using Ps3/vita.
Won't be able to renew or purchase PSplus membership(s) using 7th gen..
Too much is going on..

It's freaking stupid.
Why not allow at least PS3/PSvita users message each other.

I say let indie developers run PS3/Vita.
Instead of having Games that look like PS3/Vita titles on PS4/PS5 why not allow indie devs work on PS3/Vita till they get better.
