Original Ghostbusters Stars React To Jason Reitman's New Trailer

Two of the original Ghostbusters stars have reacted to Jason Reitman's new trailer. Reitman, son of Ivan Reitman, shocked the internet when a new teaser trailer for a Ghostbusters sequel was released. The trailer didn't give much away about the movie, but gave fans a blast of nostalgia as Elmer Bernstein’s score was heard, along with a shot of the Ecto-1.

Ivan Reitman has many directing credits under his belt, but his two most famous movies are arguably Ghostbusters, as well as the follow-up film Ghostbusters II. The two films came out in 1984 and 1989, respectively, and Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson played the lead roles as the Ghostbusters. In 2016, Paul Feig's Ghostbusters movie hit the big screen, although it was a reboot rather than another sequel. Now that the first teaser trailer for Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters movie has been released, a few of the original stars have reacted to it.

Both posting on Twitter, Aykroyd (Raymond Stantz) and Hudson (Winston Zeddemore) have shared brief reactions to Reitman's first trailer. Both actors make references to the original Ghostbusters films, with Aykroyd referencing the famous slogan, "Who ya gonna call?" and Hudson referencing the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man that appeared in Ghostbusters II. Both of the actors' tweets can be seen below.

There have been rumors of a Ghostbusters 3 for years, but the film was thought to be stuck in development. Between the actors' busy schedules, Ramis' death, and the development of Feig's all-female Ghostbusters movie, the time just never seemed right for a third Reitman-directed Ghostbusters movie. At one point, Aykroyd seemed interested in Ghostbusters returning as a live-action Netflix series, but he confirmed in late 2018 that the movie script for Ghostbusters 3 with the original cast was being written and that Murray might return.

While these tweets shouldn't be taken as confirmation that the actors are returning for the movie, it is completely possible the actors could come back for Reitman's movie. This new Ghostbusters movie will take place in the original Ghostbusters universe, meaning the events of the first two films will connect to Reitman's movie. The main characters of his movie are said to be four teenagers, but it's possible the surviving cast members of the original Ghostbusters could return for cameo roles, just as they did for the reboot. For now, details about the film are being kept under wraps, but having a few of the original cast members react to the trailer will surely get long-time fans excited for their potential return.

Hope they do come back as mentors for the new team or something similar it's the only way i see a proper sequel going.

And if Bill Murray wants to be a ghost let him be a damn ghost if it gets him in the movie.

This is something i was hoping for instead of the stupidity Feig put together.

The PS3 Ghostbusters Video Game was a proper sequel, as was extreme Ghostbusters.

So-far this Ghostbusters 3 or whatever the title will be has a good start by saying

Agreed the ghosbusters video game was near perfect and felt like playing the third movie. I still play it from time to time cause it's also incredibly fun, definitely one of the best movie games ever made.
The real ghostbusters was also a good animated continuation along with the extreme ghosbusters which had an all new cast of busters but was just as good.

Hope they can get Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts back as well sense it's set in the same universe, even if it's just cameos. Just wouldn't feel right without them.

I know right.
I'd like to see them as mentors to the next Ghostbusters team like the extreme Ghostbusters.

Ghostbusters 3 Shoot Targets Early Summer Start Date?

Ghostbusters 3 isn't wasting any time, as production is set to begin this spring, according to a new report. We only learned of the sequel last month, which comes from Jason Reitman, son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman. Sony is eager to get the project off the ground and they've already locked down a summer 2020 release date. Now, we have word that filming will be getting underway in just a few short months.

Before we get too excited, this information isn't coming directly from the studio, so we should caution that up front. That said, a new report states that Ghostbusters 3 is currently eyeing a May 13 start date. That may seem like a quick turnaround for such a major summer blockbuster, but Jason Reitman and the studio have been putting this together behind the scenes, rather quietly, for some time. Reitman even shot a Ghostbusters 3 teaser trailer that was revealed on the day it was announced to let the world know that this is very real. So it wouldn't be at all shocking to learn that this date is accurate.

For the time being, not much has been officially revealed about the movie. What we know for sure is that it will take place in the same universe as the original movies and will reportedly center on a group of younger kids who will presumably be taking up the ghost busting responsibilities left behind by Egon, Peter Winston and Ray. It will be ignoring the events of the female-led 2016 reboot, in favor of a proper third installment. While that resulted in some backlash from Leslie Jones, who starred in the reboot, it's a decision that, from a business perspective, makes sense.

Paul Feig's 2016 reboot was met with a mostly positive response from critics. However, the movie grossed just $229 million worldwide. That number might seem okay, until the very steep $144 million budget is factored in. As such, Sony decided not to continue on with that version of the franchise.

Jason Reitman isn't just his father's son. He's an accomplished director whose credits include Juno, Up In the Air and last year's political thriller The Front Runner. Reitman penned the screenplay with Gil Kenan. As it stands, there is no word on casting, nor is it clear if the original actors, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, will return. While Hudson and Aykroyd seem more than willing and happy to do so, Murray would seem to be the biggest question mark. Sadly, Harold Ramis passed away in 2014.

Assuming this start date is accurate, or at least assuming that Sony sticks to releasing the movie next summer, we should be hearing solid word on casting sooner rather than later. We'll be sure to keep you posted as any further details on the project are made available. Ghostbusters 3 is currently set to hit theaters on July 10, 2020. This news was first reported by the Discussing Film Twitter account.
