Dude I spent hours copying movie files to a Flash Drive that's formatted to ExFAT, & I got the majority done & then it says recent movie files I'm trying to copy over there's an error.
Okay so I look it up & the suggestion was to restart my laptop.
So okay I did, & poof nothing was wrong with the files, no corruption or anything. Nothing.
I reconnect the ExFat flash drive tried it again copied the individual file & nothing, it copied over.
So I played the file from my HDD & works fine, played from the drive & won't play.
Then I figure it's there so maybe it'll play through a different device, I click to add a new folder copy files, eject safely & put the flash drive & poof What The Smurf?!
All the files were gone!
This is the second time this has happened with an ExFAT formatted drive.
Come to find out also that windows 7, 8, 10, 11, default can't native format ExFat to FAT32 when it comes to anything larger than 32Gs.

Yeah, you should have just NTFS'd the USB drive beforehand.
But what a rotten way to find out that lesson.

Fat32 is only good upto 4gigs, that's why they say to use ExFat for files larger than that, but ExFat has limitations,
So if you are transferring the movies to a USB to watch on a USB port T.V - Android TV or another PC then ntfs is the way to go for anything over 4gigs.

But why does files disappear on ExFat ?

Quote:exFAT is not a journalled file system, so there is higher probability of data loss than with NTFS or HFS+. exFAT uses a single file allocation table and a single free space map, so there is a higher likelihood of file system corruption due to that (such as if a removable device is disconnected during a write).

And OMG No freaking wonder!
Why the smurf did Microsoft freakin do that to begin with!? That is so stupid!
FAT32 should be one of the default format options. Period!
I will surely let my friend know this.
They buy/order flash drives with a huge amount of space...like 4TB, & didn't know ExFAT formatted drives do this crap.

I got to learn something new! Linux, really.
Hmmm, well it worked so-far for me. I'm getting the owner of the flash drive to try it & see if what I copied works or not.
I'll let you know as soon as I hear back.
