Bluepoint Games Finally Reveals Demon's Souls Remake at PS5 Event
During the PS5 'Future of Gaming' stream, Bluepoint Games finally reveals the remaster it has been teasing for months: Demon's Souls.

For months now, Bluepoint Games has teased a variety of remakes it could be working on. The Shadow of Colossus Remake developer has itself teased games like Demon's Souls and Legend of Dragoon, while the rumor mill has spit out other possibilities like Jak & Daxter, Legacy of Kain, and the possibility of there being two remakes. Now, the developer known for its high-quality remakes has confirmed the Demon's Souls Remake.

In a new trailer showing off Demon's Souls' environment, villains, graphics, and more, Bluepoint Games has giving players their first glimpse at the remake. The confirmation that it exists is likely enough for several fans of the From Software game, and that's about all they got. Aside from this confirmation, Bluepoint Games neglects to mention information like the release date.

Inviting players to take on the "original brutal challenge, completely rebuilt from the ground up," it appears that Demon's Souls will be coming back to establish itself, a game that initiated the Souls-like formula but was quickly overshadowed by its successor, Dark Souls. The game will also feature a new Fractured Mode, although details are sparse.

Finally, alongside the shadow effects and ray tracing, Demon's Souls has two graphic modes: one focused on frame rate, the other on fidelity. This will allow players to take on the challenge in their own way on PS5.

Demon's Souls Remake is in development.

Now that the PlayStation 5's launch information has been shared, more details about its launch games can be released. Pre-order listings for several PS5 games have gone live through Sony's official storefront, and one particularly interesting detail has to do with Demon's Souls. Specifically, Demon's Souls may allow for two-to-six network players, more than the original game.

In the original Demon's Souls release for the PS3, multiplayer was limited to as many as three other players beyond the host. Two Blue Phantoms at a time could be brought into the game, as well as one Black Phantom invader. Blue Phantoms are co-op partners that have a very clear summoning procedure, while Black Phantoms can invade as they please with the intent of killing the host player.

The listing for Demon's Souls on PS5 suggests Bluepoint may be expanding the action-RPG's multiplayer capabilities in its additional terms of service. However, there's no further information available to specify how this would apply to the game specifically. Fans will simply have to wait for Bluepoint to make an official announcement or release more information.

Any possible expansion to Demon's Souls multiplayer would likely be welcome given the limitations of the now decade-old original. Additional co-op partners or invaders could be interesting to see, and there's potential for other types of incursions or even unique modes dedicated to competition. It all depends on what Bluepoint is comfortable with, considering this is a game they're remaking and not building from the ground up.

There is a question for some fans as to whether it's appropriate for Bluepoint to make any big changes to Demon's Souls, and adding additional multiplayer functionality could definitely be considered a big change. This would change the experience and potentially difficulty to an extent, which may not be what From Software fans or From Software itself would want. However, it's already known that Bluepoint is adding a brand new weapon as a pre-order bonus, so the studio isn't opposed to making adjustments.

It's also possible that the multiplayer information provided in the pre-order listing may be referencing something already known in a somewhat confusing manner. Demon's Souls already has asymmetric multiplayer features, like From Software's popular messaging system throughout its RPGs. Hopefully, the detail is given more clarity sometime soon.

Demon's Souls releases November 12 on PS5.
